Lila Yomtoob and I have been enjoying the summer days working on her new film "America 1979." It's the drama of an Iranian-American family set during the hostage crisis of 1979, and we worked hard to create a non-nostalgic period look where the viewer felt present, rather than a "peering back through time" at that era. Building from the Redlog gamma, I modeled the look on 70's action films with inky blacks, cold sunlight and authentic light sources. A shout out to Craig at FilmConvert for his quick attention and resolution to a gamma shift issue we were having with the grain plate. Watch the clip through for the before and after!
